Theseus was Athens's great hero. While having all the qualities of a traditional hero, such as strength and courage, he was also intelligent and wise. His early adventures benefited the city and region. He was a successful king consolidating Athens position and the democracy. He gained a reputation for helping the poor and oppressed. After being king, he continued going to adventures, and met Heracles. In middle age his wisdom abandoned him. He began going on foolish adventures and making bad decisions. Ultimately, he died in exile from Athens's.
Generations passed and during the Persian wars Athenian solders saw the ghost of Theseus saying that he was responsible for their victories. The Athenian general found Theseus's bones and returned them to Athens.
